I must admit I was quite nervous when I started this class. Having no previous experience with watercolor – that is, other than what I did in first to third grade, where all the paint inevitably got mixed together in one big mess – I was nervous about if I was going to have enough patience for this class. However, I took a painting class this last semester, using acrylic, which was also a new medium to me, and I was about equally nervous about that class beforehand... After our first critique class I felt like I had gained a lot of new information. Seeing other people’s art, comparing, getting ideas and learning what could be improved, worked more on etc. was very informative. One thing that I keep reminding myself is that a painting should always look undone. If it looks completely done, then it will look like a copy from the picture you are painting. Further, in order to give the painting personality, you should put your own touch... Continue my watercolor learning experience

When we decided to create greeting cards for the holiday for the rest of this semester I felt like I got a different approach to my paintings. I relaxed a little bit more – or at least in a different way - and felt like a card that takes about 20 minutes to make is easier to try different “techniques” with, such as giving the painting a “wet” look without feeling like I am messing it up... Of course it would be great if I could use my knowledge in watercolor (or in art overall) in a professional way! Learning to create through art is one of the best things I have ever done! I hope to learn a lot more and develop my skills. To start with I am hoping to find my own style. Ever since I started painting I have thought in the back of my head that I really wish I can find a style that not only fits me, but that identifies me... Continue my watercolor learning experience

This watercolour assignment was different for me in quite a few ways, especially The Mary church video was a good aid for me in the process of making my greeting card. The first thing I did was making sure that my measurements were exactly on point as I marked them. I first started off using a pen to let view the dimensions of the paper witch is 4.25 by 11 inches... Continue my watercolor learning experience

I’ve known since I was a very young child, I wished to become a graphic designer. In class I’d always doodle on my class test, even sometimes without realizing it. Occasionally, harsh lectures were thrown at me such topics as; I should spend more time solving more math equations than doodling. As many years past I stopped doodling on test, it was more convenient to carry around a sketch board instead... Continue my watercolor learning experience

I am a mother of an one year and 5 months old little girl. Looking at my little girl growing day by day, I wonder myself what else can I teach her other than our tongue language? My friend Cathy then recommended this course to me. She told me we can play colors with our kids and it’s not only broaden our horizon but also help get parents-child more close to each other. She took this course with Professor Chen last semester and had a lot of fun in water painting... Continue my watercolor learning experience

I have learned some water painting skills like flat wash, graded wash, back run, glazed wash and lifting. Now when my daughter takes nap in the afternoon, I would fix myself a cup of tea and enjoy my private water painting time. Though I don’t have any painting or drawing experience prior to this class; but hopefully at the end of this course, I would have same joyfulness to share with my friends and family...
