Germaine Spruill's watercolor learning experience:
This watercolour assignment was different for me in quite a few ways, especially The Mary church video was a good aid for me in the process of making my greeting card. The first thing I did was making sure that my measurements were exactly on point as I marked them. I first started off using a pen to let view the dimensions of the paper witch is 4.25 by 11 inches. It was less work, in the cutting process for me to cut the paper because the length already was 11 inches. The next step was folding the paper precisely with the dimensions of 4.25 by 5 inches. I used a long metallic steel ruler in my aid to make a strait crease. It only took a moment for me to realize I’ve mad a mistake using it on the front painting side of the paper because it left light scratches on my paper. Finally it was time for the most important part in the portrait; it was the first sketch in order to plan was the paints were going to go. I had trouble because I was never used to drawing on such a small piece of paper and I went in with to much detail. Somehow I figured that this would happen and made two other 4.25 by 11 inch folds as back ups if my first project was to fail, each of these folds came out very accurate their proportions. I used my drafting pencil to create four precise lines around each side to just to insure that were I placed my tape would be even. This is when I knew it was best to completely was my tray. I didn’t want to waste any of the remaining colors on it but I had an idea of a value system that I was going to make on it. Once I finished that I wet my paper witch I was better of not doing on this first project I began painting the scenery. For the blue sky with a tiny hint of magenta, I added in a dap of red in my palette in the blue with I was soon to discover this was unnecessary due to the fact that it came out a bit too purple. I completed this painting but not in the way I wanted it to be. I’m to start again using the other paper with the proper dimensions starting from the background first.
