In class we have experimented with different techniques. My favorite effect is using wet into wet to achieve a variegated wash. I find I don't use it enough in other paintings I have done. I really enjoyed the way the colors bleed into one another. This technique was especially helpful in the practice landscape with the tree. The flat wash is the most common and useful wash but my least favorite... Continue my watercolor learning experience

Through our in class critique I learned that I need to create more contrast to emphasize the lighting within the appropriate composition. With the correct lighting a painting can be more powerful by pulling you into the areas you want to draw attention to. Using a composition style to compliment the feel of the painting also adds to the appeal of a good watercolor... Continue my watercolor learning experience

It is hard to predict what I will do with what I have learned in painting. I've enjoyed this class and I know I will continue to paint in all mediums. I have learned some valuable techniques that have made painting in watercolors easier and more satisfying. My focus was supposed to be on painting a good portrait. I may not be there yet but I'm a lot closer than I was before and will continue to work on it more in the future... Continue my watercolor learning experience

How to make a greeting card? I had planed it for a week in my mind. These past few classes have exposed me to the medium of watercolor painting. I have learned the importance of the basic three colors (pure red, blue, and yellow) and how combining these colors produce shades of orange (red + yellow), green (blue + yellow) and purple (red + blue). The color brown is created when red, yellow and blue are mixed together... Continue my watercolor learning experience

Before embarking on a career as a watercolor illustrator, first I would need to become more proficient in planning the subject to be painted. For example, in class we had an assignment to draw and paint a pumpkin. Being able to recognize when to shadow and how to draw the audience into the drawing is an art into itself... Before you can start to prepare a greeting card, you need to secure the supplies. This means a trip to either an art supply store, Staples, or a craft store. On our way home from class last Saturday, November 1st, we stopped in the Somerville mall to shop for the supplies. The supplies needed are watercolor paper, envelopes and drafting tape. Yong suggested getting the tape at Staples so we went to Staples and we were able to make the purchase... Continue my watercolor learning experience
