Emma Schenstrom's watercolor learning experience:
When we decided to create greeting cards for the holiday for the rest of this semester I felt like I got a different approach to my paintings. I relaxed a little bit more – or at least in a different way - and felt like a card that takes about 20 minutes to make is easier to try different “techniques” with, such as giving the painting a “wet” look without feeling like I am messing it up.
Last class we learned how to do some different effects, such as the salt creating a really great, complicated looking, pattern, which I personally think is great now when we are doing greeting cards! As well as the technique were we put a little bit of extra water to “push away” the paint, which makes it look like ice or tree silhouettes, etc. I have spent quite some time playing around with these new effects to see what you can really do with it.
Furthermore, I feel like it has been great learning from scratch, how to do a greeting card. Including how to make the folding look clean and neat and how to create an even and neat border around the painting.
