Lynch House: A portrait painting of a Home

Original Watercolor Painting
Size: 24 x 18 inches
Medium: Watercolor painting on watercolor paper

Most people may consider that only human and animals have personality. A home also has its personality too. That is why when come to painting of a house, we call it House Portrait painting. Because a home after a family, sometimes generations of the family have lived there, day in day out, so many things had happened, and so many activities had occurred around the house, inside and out. After many generations, the then baby now became a grandfather, when I look at a house from a close distance, I can almost see the wrinkles and rough skins as I would see on an old person's face and hand. So many details I can see on the front of the house wall, the objects around the house, the driveway, the mailbox, and the trees around can tell the significant stories of the family.

When I received a commission, the first thing I would do is spending a day with the family in and out of the house, listening to the stories of family involving with the house. Then I would see the house as I see a human-being - it has personality. Base on my understanding, I will choose the season, and the certain time of the day, and the most appropriate lighting, and even a special painting methods and techniques to enhance that personality.
