Jialing Guo's watercolor learning experience:
I did a one color painting in class weeks ago. One color painting is use only one color to create a “colorful” watercolor painting. But how do you make it colorful? That is all about the brightness and the darkness of the color. Control the water and mix it with the color to make a different color is not easy. My painting was three dolphins swimming in the ocean. I was very proud with those dolphins. I painted them darker on the top and litter lighter on the body, and I liked color a lot. I didn’t realize my problem till my instructor asked me, “Is that a sky or an ocean?” I understood that if it is an ocean, the water should not be that still, it should be moving.
Every time when I put up my paintings with the other classmates’ paintings on the wall, I really like their paintings. They look much better than mine. But my painting is much better than before, and I am proving.
