Yoon oh Park's watercolor learning experience:
During 5 weeks, I had great time with a lot of fun to explore the world of watercolor in every class with Professor Yong Chan. I think it was fortunate that I could begin this journey to the art by water color. At first class I practiced color making, which I learned how each color can be mixed together and recreated another color. My professor, Yoon Chan, who never lost smile on his face, always taught students “how can draw and have a fun from art” with detailed explanation and every time he showed demonstration to students by himself, which helped me practically. It was amazing, also my honor, that I could watch his portrait drawing, even right next him, which at last part of class he drew portrait of one of class students right in front of class. I concentrated on his work while he was painting and observed every process that he carried out, wishing I could draw a painting like him. I could understand every steps and skills such as adjusting color volume by using proper amount of water, waiting a few moments for another brush touching on paper, which will be until certain amount of water dries up from it, putting shadow and describing prospective properly, etc. During half of semester, I got a lot of confidence on my water color and that affected my whole art experiences and encouraged me to learn more and more. I still remember how I was surprised, when I found myself who was really enjoying painting like I could not notice how much time passed while I was drawing.

Also I am taking drawing class on Wednesday before water color class. I did not know they have much of relation and connection. However as much as I learned about them, I realized they are strongly connected and responded each other. Sometimes I felt synergy effect for my view point of art by studying both of them at the same time. Last week I registered membership for the Museum of Fine Art where is my favorite place in Boston, since I learned how to draw and paint. Honestly, I might not have fully understood what professor Yong Chan said to us at first class; “Having Fun!”, because I could not have a fun from any art classes for my life. With realization, now I know what it does mean and how much it is meaningful for me. Simply it might be anything or even nothing to some people, but for me it was one of the greatest things filled my life that I found by coming to America, studying and experiencing new world.

I wish I could continue to study about art, especially varied subject like clay, oil painting, acrylic painting that I have never tried yet. For this, I will keep learning water color and enjoying this beautiful activity. Thank you, Professor, Yong Chan!
