Sulian Liang's watercolor learning experience:
Fancy House Painting: Our new project is painting house and family members. I don't have any idea about the house because I live in an apartment. I took pictures out of the city. I hope to get the feeling of my project. However, no one gave me the feeling. One day while I was reading the book for my child, I got an idea. We are sitting in front of a house, one boy is playing with the dog, and the flowers all around of the house. I think that is very nice and warm.
When I started painting I know how difficult this painting is. First problem is drawing human body. Especially they are small in this painting. I couldn't paint the face well. Second, there is no reference for this painting. It comes from my brain. So I have to thinking about the colors that how to paint ground, flowers and house fancy. Last problem is the shadow. No picture shows me where the shadow is. I have to think about the light source. The light is from the same source then the shadow should be the same direction.
This painting let me know water color painting is not easy. It is hard for the beginner to paint without reference. However, if we do practice, practice and practice we will feel better. In the future we will confidence in painting.
