Lisa Carson's watercolor learning experience:
It was hard to find a reference that I would enjoy painting. So I got my references from the internet. I tried painting a basket of eggs but this really did not interest me so I did not finish it yet. So I searched and I found that I love to paint animals. My painting of the cat next to the bowl and window was a little frustrating. There was to much going on in the painting. So I simplified it with less things going on outside of the window and toned down the curtain with a deeper color. Then I realised that there was to many colors in the picture there was not a true dominant color and a complimentary color. As you can see I tried the lifting off technique but the color pigments are very strong in the window area. I thought I would just go over it with blue colors to make it like the sky. I really liked the tulips pink so I kept them this color. The bowl and the cat by themselves are very good but I feel that this painting still has to much going on. Because I loved painting the cat I painted another painting with only the cat in it to simplify it so that the cat is the main focus. This cat came out so much better this way.
