Anthony Burgos's watercolor learning experience:
As I have had no prior experience painting with watercolors this previous assignment was a great learning experience for me. I generally draw with pens and pencils, it's rare that I get into coloring for my work. As the purpose of this piece was to convey the image of autumn within a simple drawing by using color; this was an excellent chance for me to try something new. Since autumn was the focus of the assignment it gave me a general idea of what the appropriate colors would be; that, as well as the in class demonstration helped me get over my usual hesitations when using color.

Other than my inexperience, perhaps my greatest hesitation when first working on this piece was the very loose feel of watercolor. As I stated before, I am used to using pens and pencils; tow mediums which are tight and controlled. The switch to watercolors was a drastic difference as the brush and free flowing movement of the painting took some getting used to. However, after some time I found that the loose, more relaxed nature of the watercolors allowed me to experiment more. They were easy to erase if I made a mistake, and most of my supposed mistakes actually made the painting look better and taught me new techniques. Also having to mix all of my colors by using the primaries helped me gain a better understanding of what I would need to created the specific colors I desired.

In conclusion, I had a lot f fun with this assignment. By trying something new I found a new favorite medium. Not only did I find something I enjoy but I also learned to relax more while drawing and to ease my fears of trying new techniques.
