Doan Thien Huy Hung's watercolor learning experience:
First, I just want you to know that I have never paint any piece of art for anyone as a gift. But in this Water Color class, our instructor figured out a good idea: that 's paint a water color gift cards. That is, of course, is new for me and I bet for my classmates too. And everyone feels excited about it. We have to paint in the water color paper in the scale : 4.25&5 inches. That is a challenge for me. Drawing and painting in a small space like that is not easy. But I feel good because after all I have something in my own to give to the people I love. That is meaningful. First, I have to choose a topic that suitable with Christmas holiday and with the people I want to give to. Like for my parents: I choose a topic in the forest and mountain; for my friend: I choose to paint a cartoon Christmas card,... I go and look at the sample or picture online and choose what I like best. After that, I go to the store to find the Christmas gift card with an envelope go with it and a drafting tape to hold the card down. Because I missed the class once, I have to go to Mr. Chen's website to look for the right way to make a gift card: like how to tape the card, how to draw and paint. And I found out that painting a gift card is almost the same as painting a big piece of work, just smaller by size. Smaller does not mean easier, I know about that when I do the first one. It is harder to capture every details you like in the small scale and of course, it is harder to paint. But I followed the steps like in the website and Mr. Chen's too, and I think I did well. But I need to do it more to practice a new technique. And I will do it whenever I have time because I want to give my best effort to the people I love.
