The Children's Book Council (CBC) is a non-profit trade organization dedicated to encouraging literacy and the use and enjoyment of children's books, and is the official sponsor of Young People's Poetry Week and Children's Book Week each year. The Council's Members include U.S. publishers and packagers of trade books for children and young adults.

Miz Fannie Mae's Fine New Easter Hat is partially based on a true story about Fannie Mae and Hamond Smith, the parents of Ida Mae Sydnor, the author's adopted godmother. Hamond Smith used to show off his wifes' Easter hat every year before church, just like in this story.
Twig grew up in a family of naturalists. Her mother, Jean Craighead George, has written over one hundred children's books and pioneered the genre of scientific literature for children. Twig is the author of Swimming with Sharks which I illustrated and published by HarperCollins Publishers in 1999.
