Watercolor Painting of a Lemon Part 2
After the previous wash has dried, we are ready to apply a wash in the lemon area. We are going to use the wet-into-wet.
Without wetting the area, I use the same large flat sable brush to apply a yellow color onto the light side of the lemon. I can tilt the brush as I move, and sometimes I only use a portion of the brush. I carefully leave the highlight area untouched to keep it white.
Now I quickly mix some red and blue with the yellow to make a yellow-brown color and paint overlap onto the yellow color to create a soft transition.
I add red and blue into the mixture and a bit less water, and then I apply it to the right lower section of the lemon. As you can see, the excess paint has been accumulating at the bottom area. To prevent it from dripping down or creating a back-run effect, I use the dry number-14 round brush to blot the excess paint. Here I just finished applying the first wash to the lemon area.
