This painting is of the Calla Lily in a vase, and a beautiful subject for Valentines Day.
Start with painting the background to determine the mood. I will use bold strokes here and simply let the color go where it wants to go within it’s space, even though the light side will show light paint interspersed with a bit of dark. I chose a dark background for the white flowers to capture a position of prominence and the attention of the viewer.
