Oil Painting of a Sailboat Part 2

In the last step of the painting process, I already applied the base layer to all of the areas. Now, I am going to focus on adjusting the color and value. For example, I will make the color for the water area to be much darker, so I apply a much darker blue color to this area. However, I feel the color is now a bit too dark, so I use white to blend into it to make it lighter. Do the adjustment as much as you want until you are happy with the look. Next, I am working on the sky area, which I am adjusting to be a bit darker as well.

Next, I am looking at the island area. I want to make it look a bit brighter and warmer. While I am modifying the color, I am also adding and adjusting the shapes. I also add some reflection of the island.

Now, I change to use a smaller brush, a size #2 filbert shape brush to add some darker details. I mix a dark brown color and apply it to the bottom, the space between the island and its reflection, and some small areas to deepen the shadows.
